Furniture can be a very big investment when buying a home. What furniture do you really need to live comfortably in your new home? Are there some things that you can live without for a while until you are settled in and get what you really need? Working as a real estate agent for the past twenty years, I have helped a lot of families get settled into their new places. This blog will show you what you probably want to have when you first move into a house and what you can live without for a few months as you get settled in.
Bamboo is generally thought of as the stuff pandas eat, or the bamboo shoots found in Asian cooking. Most people do not realize just how versatile this plant really is, nor how strong it is, either. The following uses for bamboo address how bamboo can be used for custom furniture, and why you would want bamboo furniture.
Bamboo Caning for Chairs
Bamboo trees can grow to an immense size. In fact, if you were to see some in the wild in China, you would not guess that they are bamboo, since most are really thick and almost as tall as redwood trees. When they are cut down or harvested, the trees are bared to the soft pulp. This helps them absorb special chemicals that make it easier to bend the bamboo into canes, which are then shaped to make legs, seats, and backs of chairs. Some of the growth ridges in the bamboo may be left behind to create texture or a unique visual pattern.
Bamboo tables often use the canes to create the legs and/or supports for the legs and bench top. You can also put together several stalks of bamboo and either seal them and leave them as-is, or plain them to create a very smooth surface. If you request a smooth surface, you can also top the surface with glass so that you can see the bamboo underneath while protecting it with the glass on top.
People love beds made from bamboo because it is an incredibly strong wood. It is nearly impossible to break. Even if you are carrying a lot of excess weight around, the bamboo bed can support you. Because of the caning process, you can also create any number of decorative headboards and foot boards, too.
Why You Want Bamboo Furniture
Bamboo looks great inside or outside of your home. If you put furniture from a company like Acacia Seating Inc -- outside or use the bamboo as kitchen furniture -- it resists liquids. Its strength and durability make it a good choice for furniture in a home with kids and it holds up under the weight of "big and tall" adults. It is one of the most easily customized woods available, and there is plenty of it. Since it can grow in just about any tropical region (there is bamboo in Florida!), you can access bamboo from any country or state just above and completely south of the equator.Share
