Furniture can be a very big investment when buying a home. What furniture do you really need to live comfortably in your new home? Are there some things that you can live without for a while until you are settled in and get what you really need? Working as a real estate agent for the past twenty years, I have helped a lot of families get settled into their new places. This blog will show you what you probably want to have when you first move into a house and what you can live without for a few months as you get settled in.
Roll top desks in the office are as old as company accounting firms. Their origins can be traced back at least a century or two. Most people tend to like roll-top desks too, because there is so much flexibility in their use. In fact, you might even say that roll-top desks are the "convertible of office furniture." Here is why.
You Can Remove All the Drawers and Use the Slots
If you do not need all of those handy little drawers for office supply storage, you can always pull the drawers out and use the slots that remain. Many of the slots that hold the drawers in a roll-top desk are as wide as a piece of paper or a couple of stacks of envelopes. You can organize your office paper supplies in some of the slots and use the others for accounting books, binders and large office items like a three-hole punch.
Roll-Top Desk Assembly Allows for Conversions
Most roll-top office desks are assembled in sections. There are two pedestal feet which are joined together by the back kick panel, and then there is the top part, the roll top section itself. Once you have the feet and kick panel securely put together, you will see that all you need to create a basic flat top desk is a single board to cover the pedestal feet, you can have a furniture craftsman make the board to fit. As for the roll-top section, you could always set that off to the side on some other type of support and use it for office supply organization.
You Can Remove the Center Consoles
Some roll-top desks are also designed to be computer desks. As such, the center console of mail slots and drawers is removable. If you take the center console out, your computer monitor fits squarely in this space, and the connecting cables feed down through the engineered hole in the top of the desk. If you want to convert it back to a complete roll-top again, remove your monitor and put the center console of mail slots and drawers back in place.
They Are Elegant
Finally, the last reason why you could say that roll-top office desks are the "convertible of office furniture" is that they are elegantly crafted. You can get them in just about every finish and color, even with added Baroque or Roman detailing. They are imposing but attractive, just like a convertible car. With all of their little fascinating storage drawers and features, they are as impressive as an actual convertible.
